EASTWYCK VILLAGE TO HOST 10/2 OASIS CLASS: “MINDFUL EATING WITH PRE-DIABETES OR DIABETES”

ALBANY, NY (Friday, Sept. 28, 2012) — Capital Region OASIS and the SUNY Center for Excellence in Aging and Community Wellness will present an information session titled, “Mindful Eating with Pre-Diabetes or Diabetes” on Tues., Oct. 2 from 2-4 p.m. in the Great Room of Eastwyck Village, 1720 Best Road, North Greenbush.

Sandra Varno, a resource educator at Cornell Education Resources, will lead this workshop which will address sustainable dietary changes that help slow the progression of diabetes without ignoring the important role food plays in life. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..">“We welcome the opportunity to educate our residents and the general public about this increasingly prevalent disease,” said Eastwyck Village Health Coach Suzanne Defruscio, noting that a diagnosis of diabetes instantly changes the way an individual approaches food. “Learning to eat mindfully often empowers people to choose healthier foods with greater consistency and to ultimately enjoy them more.”

New York Capital Region OASIS collaborates with the SUNY Center for Excellence in Aging and Community Wellness to offer educational programs for adults who are more than 50 years old. Members can choose from a wide variety of stimulating classes that range from the arts and humanities to fitness and travel. Volunteer opportunities are also available and membership is free.
